National Humor Month

We’re not sure if you’ve noticed, but April is National Humor Month. (We may have mentioned that once or twice!)

Here is the National Humor Month website which is absolutely packed full of useful resources, Laugh Posters, classroom tools, humor for lexophiles and more.

Steve Wilson, Joyologist and Founder of World Laughter Tour , is the new Director of National Humor Month.

On June 28, 2008, Steve received the mantle of this auspicious position with all responsibilities, rights and privileges appertaining thereto (along with a big box of funny stuff) from Larry Wilde.

From the National Humor Month website:

We honor those who make us laugh, professionals and amateurs alike, as well as friends, neighbors, teachers, and relatives, including your Uncle Fred and Aunt Tillie.

This is the place where you can come to share ideas about how to celebrate humor, information about the ancient roots of humor and the myriad contemporary expressions of humor.

John Kinde on How to Be Funny

It’s kind of ironic. Much of the research on therapeutic humor isn’t actually all that funny. Sure, the rare joke slides in as an example — but most of what we talk about is why humor works, or why certain groups of people laugh at situations another group of people wouldn’t find funny at all. But strangely, one of the rarest things to find is information on how to be funny.

John Kinde is an exception. He has an entire archive of articles telling you how to develop your humor skills! A great resource for everyone who wants to add a little levity to their care giving.

John also has a blog!

Steve Sultanoff

Q.  I’ve heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?

A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that’s it… don’t waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that’s like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap. (more…)
